World’s best mouse trap – If you have any trouble with mice while camping, you have to try this:
Take a bucket a five gallon bucket and put some water in it (about 2 inches will do).
Then put two holes opposite each other near the top.
Then put a water bottle on a dowel (or arrow)
Put two holes opposite each other near the top of the bucket
Put the dowel through the holes (tape the ends so it can’t come out)
Spread peanut butter all over the bottle. (not pictured)

Important – don’t forget to lean a stick or something against the bucket so the mice can climb up. (not pictured)

The mice will climb up the stick, jump onto the bottle, the bottle will spin, the mouse will fall into the water in the bottom of the bucket.

Rinse, Lather, Repeat.

I know – Simple minds are entertained by simple things.

World's Best Mouse TrapWe set one of these traps up at the cabin a few years ago. After dumping out dozens and dozens of mice over several days, we did not see another mouse for at least 2 years.

Now, we are starting to see some again – so it is time to break out the “secret weapon” once again.Bucket Mouse Trap

This is better than the catch-all mouse trap “In my opinion,” because it will hold more mice and drown more mice, than you can shake a stick at!!! With the exception that I would use 4 inches of water instead of two.

I wish people like Ortho would make these instead of their torture devices for mice…at least yours is cheap!

  • John says:

if you have something like old vegetable oil it would work too, while also keeping their smell neutralized.

Hey guys, after making a trap like this many times I just wanted to say: the mice do slowly drown, which is somewhat cruel.

A good way to make it so they don’t suffer too long is to put ethanol in the bucket (so they get drunk super quick and drown or die of alcohol poisoning)- or alternatively (a little more cruel, but still quick)- just use some antifreeze

  • Matty says:

Also, the antifreeze stops the mice from stinking- added bonus!

Great will try. mice eating all horse feed, not only from one back, but a bit out of each bag, trying to take over my house, they stink, …Thankyou will try…

Mice love bacon.. Who doesn’t right.. Put bacon grease on the bottle and you don’t have to worry about even distribution of peanut butter. I have even put them on sticky traps and catch 2 or more in the trap. Those things are expensive so I use the bucket and the antifreeze is better than water.. You can fish out the mouse and not have to worry about stinky stink.
