Some of our best memories (Marcy’s and Mine) as kids are from this great place.

The weather is usually warmer than it is at home, and the water is always inviting (though not so much in March).

Seems like we could go on forever talking about that one time at Lake Powell, or remember the trip when…..

We are hoping that our kids will cherish similar memories as they grow up and always remember the good times with family.

However, there comes a time when it is so good to just leave the kids home and see this magical place in a whole new light.

We finally made a short trip without them. Yes, this is the first time that we have done this since Marcy and I have been married.

Seems weird, waking up, having coffee, sitting around in a chair on the back deck of the houseboat, literally doing nothing. Walk inside, mostly quiet, kind of boring (missing the kids maybe just a little).

No, “Dad, will you take us wakeboarding?” or “Will you pull us on the tube?” or perhaps “Will you take us on the water weinee?”

Just mostly silence and peace (and quite – is that the same as silence? I think I already mentioned that one.)

That is, until the wind starts to blow.

Always seems that way, the most peaceful places can also be the most unforgiving.

The wind decided to blow all day….harder and harder as the day progressed. Dang I hate the wind, especially when I am in a boat.

Oh well, still no nagging, crying, whining (except maybe for a little from Matt and Ryan – whining)

Put out another anchor line or two, sit back and wait it out.

It was a great trip anyways, though always too short.

Even more memories created at this special place called Lake Powell and we look forward to many more.

This picture and the story will tell it all. We work up one morning and were all just hangin around and Chase walked into the cabin of the house boat looking like this. He had walked past his cousin Lauren’s bag and seen her swim top just sitting there. He thought it would be funny to try it on and see why girls like them. He went a little further when he found a couple of loufa’s sitting on the back counter. He came in strutting his stuff and made everyone laugh of course, he can swing those hips like no other. LOL It wasn’t long before the other 3 boys caught on and went with Aunt Brit and raided her bag for some more tops. They decided this was a fine time for a talent show.

Don’t they make the cutest group of girls? Brit put them on the back deck and they did the Cha Cha dance for all of us. Gage and Garrett take dance and they have some really good moves, my boys on the other hand, did not get the dancing jean from me and were not really sure what this was all about. These are the times you are glad to have camera’s and video, these pics will come in handy in the future for some good blackmail!

I have been to Lake Powell so many times that I can’t even count them and I have never seen this until now. It is amazing to think that the Pioneers actually made this work. We hiked up the 3/4 miles to see the sign that told the story of how 250 men, women and children climbed down this trail with over 100 horses and wagons. No one was killed and there were only minor injuries.

The hike up it was a little scary and steep, plus the sand was really loose and the trail was all over the place. It is always so different to look up and see the trail coming down but once I was half way up there, it gave me a whole new perspective on what all those people went through. They made this trip in January so they didn’t have to fight the heat, but the slick rock and sand would have been enough to fight.

It was fun to take the boys up here and show them what the Pioneers had to go through to make it through this area of Utah. It took them over 6 weeks to blast the mountain and make sure everyone made it down safely. It is always fun to actually get to teach the kids something while you enjoy time with family, usually it is all play. Just look at the view from 3/4 miles up the mountain.

We took the kids to Rainbow Bridge this summer. This was one of our many stops on the 10 hour trip down stream. It was really hot on the hike up and Kenzie was not in the mood to hike any more. I had to carry her all the way up which wouldn’t have been so bad if it was not so hot out. This was the first time that Chase and Kenzie had been here. Colten was with us 7 years ago, but it was a longer hike.

I learned something this trip that I hadn’t heard before. If you look on the lift side of the Rainbow, you can see the shape of a huge lizard crawling up the side. The kids thought that was a neat story, and you can actually see it.

Kenzie had fun on the hike down, she found a lizard and that was about thenly thing that would make kenzie walk for 5 feet without me or Russ holding her. She would not let the poor little thing out of her site. She never did catch it but it was a lot of fun watching her try.

One of the stops we made on the way was up Escalante to see Davis Gulch. The water has come up a lot sense the last time we were here which was 7 years ago. It is always amazing to see the changes through the years. I am glad my kids have the chance to see the way times change even when it is just on the Lake. This trip took us 0ver 10 hoursbut was so worth it. The boys had a blast, and Kenzie is always a trooper in the boat. We took Matt, Brittany, Gage and Garrett with us in our boat and the rest of the clan were with my parents in their boat.

I have missed him the last few times down there. He has always loved to cliff jump. I am not sure if it is for the thrill or just to get a rise out of mo, but either way he loves it. This year he talked Colten into jumping with him, which took all of 1 second to do. Chase on the other hand, is still the cautious one and really had to think about it for a while before he the plunge. Mark, Colten and Mike went several times but little Chaser worked himself up to two jumps and was good. I was proud of him, I have turned into a wimp in my older days. He had a blast and Colten is a natural at anything that scares a mother. Just to give you an idea about the height of the cliffs, Mark is 6′ 3″ so I am assuming they are at least 20 – 25 ft and that is big to me.

The hike was a hot one! Kenzie was not happy about being there and was not in the mood to hike up the mountain in the heat. So, i was the lucky one who got to carry her all the way to the top.The boys on the pther hand, run up the mountain like little moutain goats. Colten could come here every visit to Lake Powell, it is one of his favorite places to see.

Kenzie was fun this time up here, she really liked it. She made me nervous always wanting to look over the edge and watch the boats below. She was “watchin for her daddy” which was WAY down there hiding in the trees with the boat. She was fun to watch go inside the ruins and at one point told me she was staying in the house. There was a guy there who got a kick out of it. He told me that the rent was cheap and that I should take her up on it, there is no mortage.

It was fun to have all the cousins – or those who were with us- enjoy this trip together. They all got along really well. I am sure more fun times will come in the future!

We went to Powell for Easter this yesr, it was a blast. We had a few warm days but this was by far the best of the days. The hgh for the day was 75, the water temp was a balming 54. Chase, after much talking and promising, talked Grandpa into jumping in. The promise was that he too would jump. Only one problem with that…….Russ! He picked Chase up and gave him a quick fling into the lake, you can see by the look on his face that he was having second thoughts about swimming once he hit the water. Grandpa felt obligated to jump in, so off he went, and soon Russ folllowed. Russ said he was really hard catching a breath after hitting the water. Guess a lesson was learned……right? Don’t count on it.
